Giants must turn young receivers loose to help last-ranked offense

The New York Giants’ offense is officially the worst in the NFL. There’s no gray area anymore and nothing to debate. They’re the worst.

Now comes the process of who to blame and how to fix it. The offensive line has been a mess (even when healthy) and injuries to Daniel Jones and Saquon Barkley haven’t helped.

Barkley has been back for three weeks now and Jones will return this Sunday against the Raiders in Las Vegas but the Giants probably won’t have tight end Darren Waller (hamstring) for a while. He has been their top target in the passing game (when they choose to have one).

But there has to be more to the poor performance than just injuries. Sure, they cut into the gameplan and curtail your capabilities but we have not seen the coaching staff get creative at all to try to generate some kind of attack.

The Giants have two players who can help them do that in wide receivers Jalin Hyatt and Wan’Dale Robinson. We’ve seen them try to ignite something with both but then quickly back off. That has frustrated fans greatly.

With nothing much to lose now, it’s time to turn these two players loose. The team used Day 2 draft capital on both and it’s time to find out if they were worth it.

Looking down the roster, there are other things they can do such as throw the ball to Isaiah Hodgins, last year’s breakout star who is suddenly a non-factor.

With Waller hurting, they must elevate either Daniel Bellinger or Lawrence Cager into a bigger role in the passing game.

And what is the plan for Parris Campbell?

There’s a ton of meat on the bone here that needs to be gnawed. The shine is off the apple for head coach Brian Daboll and offensive coordinator Mike Kafka.

Guys get hurt. Coaches coach. You can’t change the first, but you sure change the second. It’s time for the coaching to take charge of this mess and turn it around.
