Giants’ Mike Glennon clears concussion protocol, will start vs. Chargers

New York Giants quarterback Mike Glennon, who practiced fully on Friday, has cleared concussion protocol and will start against the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 14.

Glennon will draw the start because Daniel Jones remains sidelined with a neck injury.

In a Week 13 loss to the Miami Dolphins, Glennon completed 23 of 44 passes for 187 yards and one interception. It was his first start since Week 16 of last season as a member of the Jacksonville Jaguars.

“I think as an entire offense we have to keep progressing on through, making sure we make the right decisions and then make the plays when they’re in front of us,” head coach Joe Judge told reporters this week. “We’ve got to do a good job of putting the guys in position and then we’ve got to execute when it comes our way.

“I liked some of the things Mike did last week. There were a lot of things he did within the game that are encouraging. There are some things we have to coach and correct off of, make sure we don’t repeat certain mistakes, but Mike prepares very well. He’s got experience in this league, so we have faith in him.”

News of Glennon starting is likely to frustrate some Giants fans. There had been a hope that Jake Fromm would draw the start and provide a little something new and uncertain to watch. But that’s obviously not going to happen.

Meanwhile, Judge remains insistent that Jones will return at some point this season. Could that come in week 15 against the Dallas Cowboys? Time will certainly tell.
