Giants’ Michael Thomas named to PFF Week 7 Team of the Week

The New York Giants were ugly from top to bottom in a Week 7 loss to the Arizona Cardinals with the sole exception of safety Michael Thomas, who not only blocked a punt that was recovered for a touchdown, but played well on special teams throughout the game and even made an impact play on defense.

That’s been commonplace for Thomas, who remains one of the Giants’ most respected veteran leaders and trusted on-field assets.

In total, Thomas recorded a four tackles (one for a loss) and, of course, the blocked punt against Arizona, earning him a place on Pro Football Talk’s Team of the Week for Week 7.

ST MICHAEL THOMAS, NEW YORK GIANTS

A special teams maven, Thomas blocked a punt against Arizona that was eventually recovered by the Giants in the end zone for a touchdown.

So far this season, Thomas has a 69.9 overall grade at PFF, but most of his work has come on special teams. He’s averaged around 25% of the team’s defensive snaps, but well over 80% of the team’s special teams snaps.

With many special teams aces around the league, it’s unlikely Thomas can earn an All-Pro nod for his stellar play, but don’t be surprised if he again makes the Pro Bowl as a special teamer.
