Giants may not avoid Ezekiel Elliott after all

The Dallas Cowboys and star running back Ezekiel Elliott are very close to agreeing on a contract extension, per veteran Yahoo NFL reporter Charles Robinson.

Elliott had been holding out this summer in hopes of a contract extension and it looks like he got it from reluctant owner Jerry Jones.

The two-time NFL rushing champion could be ready to face the New York Giants next Sunday at AT&T Stadium in the Cowboys’ 2019 regular season opener. Elliott was seeking a deal similar to that of the Rams’ Todd Gurley, who signed a four-year, $60 million extension last year. No details have been released in regards to numbers.

Elliott has played four games against the Giants in his three-year career. The fourth overall pick out of Ohio State back in 2016, Elliott has averaged 85.0 yards per game versus Big Blue with just two touchdowns.

If Elliott cannot go next Sunday, the Cowboys will ride with impressive rookie Tony Pollard, a fourth round pick from Memphis.
