Giants may chop and change ahead of Collingwood clash

GWS Giants coach Adam Kingsley is ready to wield the axe, admitting he is considering a raft of changes to replace players who have not been up to AFL standard.

After copping a thumping from the Bulldogs followed by a tight loss to St Kilda, Kingsley is desperate to get his side back on track against Collingwood on Friday night at Marvel Stadium.

"Some guys aren't perhaps playing at their best form at the moment," Kingsley said.

"Is making the change the best for them and the best for us? We'll make those decisions tomorrow."

One change has been forced on the Giants, with defender Jack Buckley in mandatory concussion protocol after a collision late in the four-point loss to the Saints.

Kingsley says James Leake and Leek Aleer are both in line for the spot.

"I'd be pretty confident in either of those boys coming in," he said.

"We'll mix what best suits match-ups against Collingwood. There's times where they play three talls, so that may help Leek get in.

"Whether we think James can play above his height, that'll be another decision we need to make."

Despite a disappointing AFL result, the Giants' VFL side got a  44-point win over the Saints.

Many performances impressed Kingsley, including Ollie Hannaford's three-goal and 31-disposal display.

"That's exactly what we want from our VFL boys, putting pressure on the senior team to not only help them perform, but to fight their way into the team," Kingsley said.

"That's exactly what Ollie's done ... he had a strong summer of training.''

The coach also provided a status update on Toby Bedford, Brent Daniels and Aaron Cadman, all racing the clock to be fit for Friday.

"Brent and Toby trained," Kingsley said.

"I'll discuss it with the physios later on, we'll assess their level of risk and see which way we go, but they're both certainly in discussion.

"Cads (Aaron Cadman) didn't train and he won't play this weekend."

The Giants know Collingwood's Nick Daicos will be a massive threat come Friday, and Kingsley revealed tagging the midfielder as a potential option.

"Obviously an incredible player," Kingsley said of Daicos.

"He's going to get possessions irrespective of whether I tag him or not. We need to accept that first and foremost, but we do need to minimise the damage that he inflicts."
