Giants managing TE Evan Engram’s workload

After an offseason that saw the New York Giants trade away its most explosive offensive asset and the with the recent rash of injuries at wide receiver, the team will be more than cautious when it comes to tight end Evan Engram.

The third-year tight end, who battled injuries throughout the 2018 season, has participated in training camp but wasn’t seen working during team drills on Friday.

Looking to keep the former first-round pick fresh, the Giants seemingly gave Engram a rest day. The team officially said they are looking to manage his workload in order to avoid any setbacks that could hinder his chances to open the regular season.

Though the offense will run through star running back Saquon Barkley, there will be a chance for Engram to solidify himself as the team’s top pass catcher. Of course, Sterling Shepard is still there, but he suffered a fractured thumb on Thursday and is expected to miss a few weeks.

The Giants will need all of the pass catchers they can get and with Engram’s injury history, they certainly will need to monitor his status throughout training camp.

Hence, don’t be surprised if they give him a day off everyone so often to keep him fresh and ready for the start of the regular season.
