Giants make Mike Remmers signing official, waive two

The New York Giants continue to hone their roster, making several moves again on Tuesday ahead of next week’s OTAs.

The Giants officially added offensive tackle Mike Remmers to the roster and also announced the signing of undrafted free agent defensive lineman Freedom Akinmoladun of Nebraska.

Remmers, 30, who played under Giants head coach Pat Shurmur when Shurmur served as the offensive coordinator of the Minnesota Vikings a few years back, will have the inside track on winning the right tackle job this summer at camp. The Giants are Remmers’ seventh NFL team since entering the NFL and an undraftrd free agent out of Oregon State in 2012.

Akinmoladun, 23, is 6-foot-4, 295-pound defensive end who started all 12 games for Nebraska last season, During his career with the Cornhuskers he had 41 career starts with 106 tackles and 11 sacks over the course of his career. As a senior last year, Akinmoladun made 29 tackles with three tackles for loss and collected 2.5 sacks.

To make room on the roster, the Giants waived/injured safety Jacob Thieneman (knee) and waived placekicker Joey Slye, who they signed last week.

Should Thieneman clear waivers, he will revert to injured reserve (IR).
