The New York Giants suffered two major blows on Wednesday as rookie safety Xavier McKinney went down with a fractured foot and linebacker David Mayo suffered a torn meniscus.
McKinney is scheduled to undergo surgery this afternoon at the Hospital for Special Surgery. The procedure will be handled by foot specialist Dr. Martin O’Malley.
NFL Network’s Mike Garafolo reports that McKinney fractured his fifth metatarsal.

McKinney’s injury may not be season-ending, but he will start the year on injured reserve and could be out several months.
In his absence, Julian Love will likely step up and start at safety across from Jabrill Peppers, who ended last season on injured reserve after suffering a fracture in his back.
Mayo, who appeared in 16 games for the Giants a season ago with 13 starts, will undergo surgery to repair his left knee on Thursday. Like McKinney, he will start the season on IR but could be activated later in the year.
With Mayo out, the Giants not have a pronounced problem at inside linebacker, especially considering Ryan Connelly, who suffered a torn ACL last season, has not been able to practice in four days.
