Giants’ Lorenzo Carter suffered ruptured Achilles vs. Dallas

When New York Giants linebacker Lorenzo Carter went down early in the first quarter of a Week 5 game against the Dallas Cowboys, it didn’t look particularly good.

Carter crumbled to the ground in obvious pain after suffering a non-contact injury, and was subsequently ruled “questionable to return” with an ankle injury.

However, a short time later Carter was ruled “out” with an Achilles injury.

After the game, head coach Joe Judge and Carter’s teammates expressed concern, but also some optimism that the issue would be short-term.

“I don’t have the official diagnosis right now. The trainers have told me that right now they’ve got to examine and get the exact deal, but our thoughts and prayers are with him, as well. I’m hoping that it’s a short-term deal,” Judge said.

“Obviously praying for Zo for it not to be something serious, not be out for too long, a quick recovery. I haven’t talked to him too much about the extent of it, but obviously I know he came out of the game,” linebacker Blake Martinez added.

Unfortunately for the Giants and Carter, who was playing the best football of his career, the injury is not short-term.

The Giants announced on Monday that Carter suffered a rupture Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the season. He is expected to undergo surgery in the coming days.

In five games this season, Carter recorded 15 tackles (two for a loss), one pass defensed, one sack and four QB hits. He had also amassed a Pro Football Focus grade of 68.4.
