Giants-Lions Week 8: Offense, defense and special teams snap counts

The New York Giants find themselves in a familiar position following a 31-26 loss to the Detroit Lions in Week 8 — near the bottom of the NFC East, completely out of contention, sellers at the trade deadline and headed down a path where the coaching future is uncertain.

As many things change, so many stay the same, huh?

Here’s a look at the snap counts that contributed to yet another in a long line of losses for New York’s team.

Offensive snaps: 74
Defensive snaps: 63
Special teams snaps: 26

After coming out briefly with an injury, right tackle Mike Remmers took 73 of the 74 offensive snaps, ushering in Nick Gates. It broke the team’s offensive line streak, which had seen the starting five take every single snap this season.

On the defensive side of the ball, it’s still curious to see Julian’s Love lack of snaps in a lost season. Ditto R.J. McIntosh, who has seen his snap count dip to single digits. Meanwhile, Deone Bucannon took 11 snaps and recorded on tackle in his Giants debut.

On specials, nothing really stands out other than, perhaps, the limited snaps for McIntosh there as well. After a strong spring, it’s odd to see him used so infrequently.
