Giants keeping a close eye on Penn State WR DeAndre Thompkins

The New York Giants don’t necessarily have a serious need at the wide receiver position, but it wouldn’t hurt them to add another playmaker now that Odell Beckham Jr. calls Cleveland home.

In addition to Ole Miss wide receiver A.J. Brown, who met with the Giants in East Rutherford earlier this month, the team is also keeping a close eye on Penn State wideout DeAndre Thompkins.

The Houston Chronicle reports that Thompkins previously worked out for the Giants and now has a private visit lined up.

Thompkins also worked out for the Buffalo Bills, New York Giants, Baltimore Ravens, Philadelphia Eagles, New York Jets and San Francisco 49ers.

He has visits with the Giants and Green Bay Packers.

Although the 5-foot-11 Thompkins isn’t exactly the tall outside receiver the Giants could use, he is a shifty playmaker who has made a name for himself by catching contested passes.

However, despite his obvious skills, Thompkins’ college production was pedestrian at best, leaving him on the outside looking in come the 2019 NFL Draft. He isn’t expected to be drafted, but could be an intriguing undrafted free agent option.

Expect the Giants to reach out to Thompkins if he’s not selected late. He very well may end up stashed on their practice squad.
