NEW YORK — Big Blue is right back in the hunt in the NFC East after beating the Eagles Sunday for a second-consecutive win.
Everything was working early for the Giants and they carried the momentum to a 27-17 win over the visiting Eagles on Sunday.
The win snapped an eight-game losing streak to the Eagles, dating back to November 2016.
The Giants raced out to a 14-3 lead in the first half at MetLife Stadium off the strength of their ground game. Daniel Jones, as he has many times this season, was lethal on the zone read plays that were called for him. Jones ran untouched into the end zone on a 34-yard zone-read keeper early in the first quarter. Running back Wayne Gallman scored the first of his two touchdowns early in the second quarter.
Jones completed 21-of-28 passes for 244 yards and added 64 yards on the ground on 9 carries. Most importantly he did not turn the ball over after coming into the game with 13 turnovers on the season (nine INTS and four lost fumbles).
Philadelphia scored a touchdown early in the third quarter when running back Boston Scott, who has made a name for himself in recent outings against the Giants, scored on a 56-yard touchdown run. A two point conversion cut the Giants lead from 14-3 to 14-11.
The Giants offense did something they haven't done much of this season after Scott's touchdown run: they immediately answered. Jones hit two chunk passes to Sterling Shepard and Golden Tate before Gallman punched in his second touchdown of the day to build a 21-11 lead. Gallman finished with 53 yards on 18 carries.
Carson Wentz and the Eagles drove down the field and scored a touchdown with a short run by Corey Clement, but they strangely decided to go for two and failed to convert, giving them a four-point deficit instead. Giants kicker Graham Gano ended up hitting a field goal that gave the Giants a 24-17 lead they wouldn't relinquish.
To ice the game, Jones heaved a long pass to wide receiver Darius Slayton, who made a perfect adjustment on the ball. To close their final meaningful offensive drive, Gano hit another field goal to seal the Giants third win of the season.
The Giants are now 3-7 on the season and control their destiny to a playoff berth in the horrific NFC East. Big Blue is now 3-2 in division play. It seemed improbable at the start of the season, but Joe Judge has a chance to guide the Giants to the playoffs in his first season as the team's head coach.
The Eagles fell to 3-5-1, 2-2 in the division.
