Giants’ John Mara: ‘We’re moving in the right direction’

New York Giants co-owner John Mara has heard the criticism — the criticism of Daniel Jones, Dave Gettleman, Eli Manning, the team’s decisions and his own personal leadership.

Mara has heard it all and he doesn’t care because he doesn’t agree.

“Absolutely, I think we’re moving in the right direction,” Mara told Newsday. “I certainly don’t think we’re a finished product yet, but I am happy with the direction of the team, contrary to popular opinion.”

Although Mara refused to go into detail over the team’s thinking in regard to taking Jones at No. 6 overall, he expressed an appreciation for what the young gunslinger is already bringing to the table.

“So far, so good. We’re very pleased with him so far,” Mara said. “He’s in shorts on the practice field, he’s got a nice arm and a great demeanor. But we’re [only] into May.”

It’s been a rough few years for Mara and the Giants, having experienced a stretch of losing that’s reminded some of those tough 1970s days. However, despite the relentless criticism, the team appears to be trending in the right direction and are now set at quarterback for the post-Eli Manning era.

As Mara alludes, there is still a ways to go, but at least inside the building, everyone appears happy with both the direction and progress.
