Giants’ Joe Judge: ‘There are no white flags here’

The New York Giants are 0-2 for the fourth consecutive season and the seventh time in the past eight years, and that nightmare also includes the loss of running back Saquon Barkley, who will miss the remainder of the season due to a torn ACL.

But don’t expect Joe Judge or his team to cave so soon — or at all.

After falling behind 17-0 to the Chicago Bears in Week 2 and losing the aforementioned Barkley, as well as wide receiver Sterling Shepard (toe), the Giants fought back and very nearly stole a win at Soldier Field.

That sort of fight can be expected from here on out as Judge vows not to wave the white flag in East Rutherford.

“We’re not gonna raise the white flag on anything. There’s no white flags here,” Judge told reporters on Wednesday. “We’re going out there to fight every week.”

Part of that fight includes the addition of running back Devonta Freeman, who officially signed with the Giants on Wednesday.

Although he is new to the team, Judge seemed excited to have Freeman in the fold, suggesting he’s got some fuel left in the tank and could even see some snaps on Sunday against the San Francisco 49ers.

“I think he’s got some juice left in the tank and he’ll get the opportunity to prove that,” Judge said. “Today will be a day of trying to catch him up and build him into the gameplan. Obviously he has a lot to learn going into Sunday but we’re going to do our best to get him ready for Sunday if we can do that.”

Things have certainly not fallen the Giants’ way so far in 2020, but it’s clear there’s no quit in this team. And although replacing Barkley is an impossibility, Judge believes Freeman can eventually help contribute to getting things back on track.
