New York Giants head coach Joe Judge was one of the assistants to receive a vote for AP NFL Assistant Coach of the Year, an award that was handed out at the NFL Honors ceremony on Saturday.
Judge, who was the wide receivers coach and special teams coordinator with the New England Patriots last season, received one vote. Baltimore Ravens offensive coordinator Greg Roman was the easy winner, receiving 41 of the 50 total votes.
Interestingly enough, Judge was the only assistant to receive a vote that wasn’t either an offensive or defensive coordinator, and it comes after a season in which the Patriots’ receiving corps. was a mess.
Of course, that mess was mostly a result of the lack of talent and experience the Pats had at the position, which also helped succeed in bringing quarterback Tom Brady down a notch.
San Francisco 49ers defensive coordinator, Robert Saleh, finished second with three votes, while Ravens defensive coordinator, Don Martindale, finished third with two votes.
Former Giants defensive coordinator and current Kansas City Chiefs defensive coordinator, Steve Spagnuolo, Green Bay Packers defensive coordinator, Mike Pettine, and Tennessee Titans offensive coordinator Arthur Smith all brought up the rear along with Judge with one vote apiece.
