Giants’ Joe Judge: ‘Daniel Jones is our quarterback’

Every single time New York Giants head coach Joe Judge steps up to the microphone or sits down for a Zoom conference, he’s forced to repeat the same line he’s given without hesitation for the past several months.

“Daniel Jones is our quarterback,” Judge told reporters on Thursday.

Why is Judge once again repeating what we already knew? Because he’s asked the same exact question like a broken record every single time he’s made available.

This time, the question came in the form of, ‘would you consider upgrading at quarterback via trade (Aaron Rodgers, Russell Wilson) or do you plan to start Daniel Jones in Week 1?’

There is only one answer to the question no matter how it’s phrased. Judge has long committed himself and the team to Jones, but even if there were a window of opportunity to explore such a trade, no one within the organization could say it because it’d be considered tampering.

Because of that, it becomes, “Judge leaves the door open for a potential trade for Rodgers or Wilson.”

What’s certain to draw less coverage and attention was Judge’s additional praise of Jones.

That’s a little less grabby and doesn’t really sell papers. No quarterback controversy? Confidence in the starter? Lacking drama at the position? That’s boring, isn’t it?

Thankfully for the Giants, Judge is unfazed and undeterred by the media pressure. He’s not going to create a problem when one doesn’t exist, and he won’t be harassed into changing his tune like his predecessors were.
