If you’re in the New York market and have neither NFL Sunday Ticket nor RedZone, the league made adjustments to their television rules on Wednesday that may benefit you greatly.
News out of the spring league meetings is that the NFL will eliminate their “singleheader rule,” meaning that every market will now have three games broadcast on Sundays as opposed to non-competing in-market games on Fox and CBS.
In other words, if you’re not interested in watching the Jets or Giants, you will now have an alternate option. And for much of the New York/New Jersey market, that will be a welcome change after years of landing in a broadcast dead zone.
In addition to the singleheader change, the league also voted to move NFL divisional playoff games on Sunday from 1:05 p.m. and 4:40 p.m. ET to 3 p.m. and 6:30 p.m. ET, and to limit Super Bowl commercial breaks to four per quarter (down from five).
Finally, the league will also move on-field drills at the NFL combine to prime time beginning in 2020.
