Janoris Jenkins' older brother William has been named a "person of interest" in the death of Roosevelt Rene, whose body police found at Jenkins' New Jersey house Tuesday morning, according to TMZ Sports.
Ontario County (NY) District Attorney Jim Ritts told the gossip website that William Jenkins, 34, is being sought for questioning by authorities.
"Bergen County wants to talk to him," Ritts said.
William Jenkins was arrested for an unrelated parole issue in upstate New York on Tuesday at 1:46 a.m., about nine hours before police found Rene's body at Jenkins' home in Fair Lawn, N.J., per TMZ.
Ritts told the website that there will be an extradition process to bring William Jenkins from Ontario County, New York to Bergen County, a 300-mile trip. TMZ reports that Williams Jenkins is not a suspect in what police are investigating as a homicide.
Rene, 25, has been identified as a family friend of Janoris Jenkins, the Giants cornerback. Rene was a music producer, and Jenkins collaborated with him on a rap song in March.
Police are reportedly developing a theory that Rene was killed by strangulation or suffocation.
William Jenkins has served two different prison sentences over the past 15 years, according to Department of Corrections records.
He was convicted of sale of a controlled substance in 2006 and was incarcerated from Dec. 6, 2006 until February 2, 2010. He was then convicted of possession and sale of a controlled substance in 2011, and was again locked up from April 4, 2011 until being released on parole on July 18, 2016.
