Giants’ Jabrill Peppers open to playing cornerback if needed

New York Giants head coach Joe Judge is well aware that he has a special talent in safety Jabrill Peppers — it can be seen and heard on the field each day.

But now Judge and the Giants may need to see just how far that athleticism extends and haven’t shut the door on potentially using Peppers at the cornerback position, where the team is disconcertingly thin.

“We’re gonna give him a swing of the bat at a lot of things,” Judge told reporters on Wednesday.

Being the team player that he is, Peppers isn’t going to shy away from the potential positional switch or adding a little more versatility to his resume.

“We’ve all been cross-training and can do multiple things,” Peppers said. “It’s a new year, a new focus. I’m just excited to start on that journey.”

After missing the end of the 2019 season with a serious injury, Peppers made it clear he’s willing to do anything the team needs so long as he stays on the field.

“It definitely sucked,” Peppers said of his fractured back. “[But] I’m healthy now.”

Ultimately, the goal for Peppers and the rest of the team is to return the Giants to prominence by any means necessary.

“We’re all hungry,” Peppers said. “We play for one of the most prestigious organizations in the NFL.”

It may take Peppers playing cornerback to reach that goal, but it’s all about putting the team first under Joe Judge.
