New York Giants wide receiver Sterling Shepard says he’s been symptom-free for over two weeks, but as of Thursday morning, he remains in concussion protocol.
Unfortunately for the Giants and Shepard, that’s unlikely to change in time for Sunday’s game against the Detroit Lions, with head coach Pat Shurmur acknowledging that it’s highly unlikely his receiver gets the green light in Week 8.
With Shepard likely out on Sunday, the Giants have yet to play a single snap this season with all of their offensive play-makers on the field. The earliest that could come is in Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys on Monday night, but even that’s up in the air.
In addition to Shepard, Shurmur said that running back Saquon Barkley (ankle) will have his reps managed from here on out, implying the 2018 NFL Offensive Player of the Year is dealing with some lingering issues from his high ankle sprain.
Initially slated to miss upwards of eight weeks, Barkley returned in just four weeks and promptly had his ankle rolled up on in a loss to the Arizona Cardinals.
