Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley still inching forward

One day after New York Giants running back Saquon Barkley shocked the football world by running, jumping and cutting less than two weeks removed from a high ankle sprain, he took another wildly impressive step forward.

During the media portion of practice on Thursday, Barkley not only warmed up with his teammates, but increased his speed from a day prior and then worked specifically on his ability to cut (not officially a part of practice).

Still, Barkley did show an abundance of caution when it came to putting weight on his right side and, more specifically, his injured ankle.

Giants head coach Pat Shurmur again indicated that Barkley could be active in Week 5 against the Minnesota Vikings, but the superstar back doesn’t appear quite ready for that sort of punishment just yet.

Still, it’s become obvious that Barkley is going to beat his projected time table by a substantial amount of weeks and that could come in Week 6 against the New England Patriots.

Here’s a full practice participation breakdown courtesy of the Giants:

Did not practice: Saquon Barkley (ankle) and Alec Ogletree (hamstring)

Limited participation: Lorenzo Carter (neck), Tae Davis (concussion) and Wayne Gallman (neck)

Full participation: Nate Solder (neck) and Kevin Zeitler (shoulder)
