Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard limited in practice

The New York Giants returned to practice on Wednesday morning and all eyes were on wide receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion), who stretched and warmed up with his teammates sans the yellow non-contact jersey.

Shepard said on Tuesday that he’s been symptom-free for about two weeks now and is just awaiting clearance from team doctors, adding that he feels ready to play and is confident he’s able to go.

Could this week finally be that week? We’ll know by Friday. For now, he remains in concussion protocol.

Meanwhile, rookie cornerback and kicker returner, Corey Ballentine, isn’t progressing as well as Shepard and was once again not practicing on Wednesday. He also remains in concussion protocol.

Finally, after apparently re-aggravating his ankle sprain against the Arizona Cardinals, running back Saquon Barkley was limited on Wednesday. However, don’t panic — head coach Pat Shurmur expects him to play against the Detroit Lions.

Here’s a look at the full list of practice designations from the Giants:

Full participant: WR Cody Latimer (quad), LB Lorenzo Carter (ankle)

Limited participant: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle), WR Sterling Shepard (concussion)

Did not participate: CB Corey Ballentine (concussion)
