Giants injury report: Saquon Barkley, Evan Engram practice in full

The New York Giants returned to practice in East Rutherford on Wednesday in what was a very important day for the team on the injury front.

Not only was sophomore cornerback Sam Beal (hamstring) back on the practice field with his teammates, but he was designated to return from injured reserve and could play as soon as Week 9 against the Dallas Cowboys.

Additionally, it was a key practice for running backs Saquon Barkley (ankle) and Wayne Gallman (concussion), tight end Evan Engram (knee) and wide receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion).

The good news? All four were on the field participating in the portion of practice open to the media, and neither Gallman nor Shepard were wearing the yellow non-contact jersey. However, it’s worth noting that a trainer stood close by holding a pair before the media was sent on their way.

The only player who was not spotted at practice was rookie cornerback Corey Ballentine, who has been placed into concussion protocol after complaining of a persistent headache.

Below is the full injury report and designations released by the Giants:

Did not practice: CB Corey Ballentine (concussion)

Limited participant: WR Sterling Shepard (concussion), RB Wayne Gallman (concussion) and DL Olsen Pierre (concussion)

Full participant: RB Saquon Barkley (ankle) and TE Evan Engram (knee)
