Giants injury report: Jon Halapio unlikely to play vs. Jets

When the New York Giants take on the New York Jets this Sunday, they will likely be without wide receiver Sterling Shepard (concussion) and tight end Evan Engram (foot).

However, the bad news doesn’t end there for the Giants who will also likely be without center Jon Halapio (hamstring).

Halapio missed practice on Thursday and was replaced by Spencer Pulley, who handled the snapping duties for rookie quarterback Daniel Jones, while offensive lineman Nick Gates took on the second team duties for Eli Manning.

On Thursday, just prior to their second practice of the week, head coach Pat Shurmur revealed that Halapio is “a ways away” with his injury and is unlikely to play in Week 10.

Pulley started nine games for the Giants when Halapio went down with a serious injury a season ago, and had been snapping to Jones before Eli Manning was benched following a Week 2 loss to Buffalo.

Meanwhile, Shurmur says it’s Gates who will get the nod in the event right tackles Mike Remmers (back) is unable to play.

Finally, Shurmur pooh-poohed any notion of putting wide receiver Sterling Shepard on injured reserve for now, saying the team is actively working to get him back on the field this season.

Did not participate: Evan Engram (foot), Jon Halapio (hamstring), Mike Remmers (back) and Sterling Shepard (concussion).
