Giants’ Identical Twin Pitchers Recreate Classic Spider-Man Meme

As the groundbreaking 2018 animated film Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse taught us, there’s room in this world for more than one Spider-Man. The same is true for pitchers named Rogers toeing the slab in San Francisco.

With the signing of relief pitcher Taylor Rogers this offseason, the Giants marked the fourth instance in MLB history of twins playing for the same team, with Taylor joining twin Tyler in San Francisco’s bullpen. On Tuesday, the brothers had a bit of Peter Parker-inspired fun to mark the occasion during the team’s media day spring training festivities.

The pair recreated the famous image of two Spider-Men pointing at each other, an image that originated in a ’60s comic book featuring the popular character and has since become one of the most well-worn memes of 21st century internet culture. Despite its seemingly omnipresent status on everybody’s timelines, this is an instance where the recreation is perfect for the moment.

Taylor Rogers debuted with, fittingly, the Twins in 2016. He made the All-Star team in ’21 and pitched for San Diego and Milwaukee last season before joining San Francisco this winter. Tyler Rogers has spent his entire career with the Giants after making his big-league debut in ’19.

As the old saying goes: “With great power, comes great responsibility.” For the Rogers’ sake, that responsibility means keeping opponents off the scoreboard.
