Giants hire first full-time female scout in franchise history

The New York Giants announced several hirings to their football operations staff on Thursday, including the first full-time female scout in the 96-year history of the franchise.

Hannah Burnett, 25, has been named the Giants’ new Midlands scout. As per the New York Post, Burnett “recently worked in scouting for the Falcons — liaising between players, agents and colleges while watching tape and attending pro days, bowl games and the combine.”

“I completely understand and am aware that this is an awesome opportunity, and it’s important for females in the league,’ Burnett said in an interview on the Giants’ website. “But I’ve said this from the get-go: I just want to go in there like everyone else goes in there and go about my business like a pro. Everything will work itself out if I go about my business the right way.”

Marquis Pendleton has been elevated to an area scout after spending the previous four years as the Giant’s scout in the BLESTO scouting combine. Blaise Bell will be the new BLESTO scout.

In other moves, Nick Williams has been named an offensive assistant on the coaching staff.

As had been reported in recent months, Craig Fitzgerald has been named the director of strength and performance, and Sam Coad will be the performance manager/assistant strength coach.

Dr. Lani Lawrence has been hired to fill the newly-created position of director of wellness and clinical services. She will also be overseeing the team’s player engagement/development program, a job once held by Charles Way and most recently, David Tyree.

“My primary role is to not only be a support, but to help players be a better person in general,” said the Manhattan-born Lawrence. “A whole person, not just a better athlete. If they’re better in their personal lives, if they have better connections with their teammates, with their spouses or people close to them, if they’re living healthy lives, ultimately, the reward is that they’re going to be a better athlete. I get to support the players emotionally, physically and mentally, and my hope is that it translates onto the field.”

Ed Triggs has been named the director of football operations. He was formerly the football operations coordinator.

Ty Siam has been named the director of football data & innovation and Courtney Kennedy will be the football data analyst.
