Giants' Greene escapes ban for high boot on Dahlhaus

Greater Western Sydney forward Toby Greene has escaped a third suspension of the 2017 season, handed a fine for his 'foot to the face' of the Western Bulldogs Luke Dalhaus in Friday night's match at Docklands.

Greene leapt to take a handball in the third quarter lifting his right leg to protect himself but caught Dalhaus with his foot, the Bulldogs midfielder had to leave the field and required stitches.

The match review panel deemed the incident misconduct and fined Greene $1,500.

The Bulldogs' Jack Redpath was offered a two-match ban for striking the Giants' Phil Davis in the same game, while Port Adelaide's Ollie Wines was fined for his high bump on Collingwood's Tom Langdon.

The Greene incident has come under intense media scrutiny due in part to his long list of prior indiscretions having already been charged four times this year.

The game against the Bulldogs was Greene's comeback match after serving a two-game suspension for striking Richmond's Alex Rance.

He was also handed a two-match ban for striking the Western Bulldogs' Caleb Daniel in round six and received fines for striking Port Adelaide's Dan Houston in round four and misconduct in the pre-season competition.

The Giants were happy with the MRP's decision. Coach Leon Cameron argued after Friday night's game that Greene should not face more time on the sidelines.

"I understand there's going to be a lot of hysteria around Toby, but clearly he has got his eyes on the ball so what he's done is protected himself," he said.

The fine means Greene will be free to play in the Giants home match against West Coast on Saturday.
