The New York Giants had an, uh, interesting NFL Draft. That’s one way to put it.
Less than two months after sending Odell Beckham Jr. to the Browns for Jabrill Peppers, Kevin Zeitler, the No. 17 pick and No. 95 pick, general manager Dave Gettleman let the NFL world see what he really had planned for the Giants.
The results weren’t exactly encouraging.
Gettleman took Duke quarterback Daniel Jones with the No. 6 pick, which was beyond underwhelming to a Giants fanbase that wanted either Dwayne Haskins or a trade for Josh Rosen. He followed that much-mocked No. 6 pick with reaching on a run-stopper in Dexter Lawrence at No. 17. He then traded up to take Deandre Baker — a zone corner from Georgia — at No. 30.
The entire draft had Gettleman looking like a GM without a plan, but thus far, Gettleman is remaining defiantly confident in his draft performance. He told NBC’s Peter King that he’s not crazy, and in three years, we’ll all see that.

That will surely inspire confidence from Giants fans. If drafting a franchise quarterback off three drives in a Senior Bowl wasn’t concerning enough, those words will do the trick.
Gettleman added some commentary on society’s lack of patience and how we should all look at his resume.
“The bottom line is, I have confidence in what I do and who I am. I’ve been a part of organizations that had pretty good quarterbacks—Jim Kelly, John Elway, Kerry Collins, Eli Manning, Cam Newton. I’ve led a charmed life with the quarterbacks on the teams I’ve worked for. I know what good ones look like. The other thing is, résumés matter. Every once in a while, I wish the people taking the shots would take a minute to look at my résumé. I’ve been a part of teams that went to seven Super Bowls. I had a hand in some of them. But today, there’s no patience. And there’s no room for civil discourse in our society, which I find sad.”
