The time has come for the NFL and HBO to decide which team is next to appear on the docuseries, “Hard Knocks,” and there are only a handful of options remaining.
Those remaining teams are the New York Giants, Washington Redskins, Oakland Raiders, Detroit Lions and San Francisco 49ers.
Each of those five teams meet the below criteria:
- The team does not have a first-year head coach.
- The team has not made the playoffs in either of the previous two years.
- The team has not appeared on “Hard Knocks” over the previous 10 seasons.
However, recent reports suggest the 49ers are out of the running, which leaves only the Giants, Redskins, Raiders and Lions.
Despite that, Bet Online in Las Vegas is still giving the 49ers some long odds alongside the four other teams.

The Raiders seem to be the favorite of the NFL community, but Vegas appears to be trending toward the Redskins. Either way, Giants co-owner John Mara had been adamant about his desire to keep New York off the show at all costs, so if the league and HBO tab Big Blue for the spot, they can expect a fight.
