Giants get going early as homestand opens with win over Reds

SAN FRANCISCO _ Whatever was ailing the San Francisco Giants hitters through much of their 10-game road trip righted itself Monday night in a 10-7 win over the Cincinnati Reds at AT&T Park.

The Giants, 21-21, jumped all over Reds starter Sal Romano through three innings, then added on later as Cincinnati (14-28) had its six-game winning streak snapped.

Rookie right-hander Chris Stratton (4-3) pitched five innings for the win, although he'll be kicking himself for letting a 6-1 lead get within 6-4 until the Giants bullpen (Pierce Johnson, Cory Gearrin and Jose Valdez) came in to finish things up.

Valdez, who made his debut Friday in Pittsburgh, gave up a three-run home run to Adam Duvall in the ninth inning with two out and the Giants leading 10-4.

The Giants chased Romano from the game with six earned runs in 2 1/3 innings.

Evan Longoria hit a two-out run-scoring single in the bottom of the first, followed by Brandon Crawford's two-run opposite field double to left field.

Tucker Barnhart singled home a run for the Reds in the second, with the Giants adding a run in the third on Andrew McCutchen's second double of the game, this one driving home Gregor Blanco.

In the fifth, Kelby Tomlinson singled up the middle to drive in a pair of runs and make it 6-1.

Stratton, however, couldn't seize control of the game. Barnhart hit a two-run home run in the fourth and then Scott Schebler a solo shot in the fifth to make it 6-4. Following a walk to Barnhart, Pierce Johnson replaced Stratton after 5-plus innings.

In the sixth, Buster Posey's two-run double highlighted an inning that was helped along by a pair of errors by Cincinnati shortstop Jose Peraza.

First baseman Brandon Belt hit a solo home run leading off the eighth, his seventh of the season, against reliever Austin Brice.
