Giants flirting with dead last in latest USA TODAY power rankings

In the eyes of many, the New York Giants are crumbling. They’ve parted ways with Damon Harrison, Eli Apple, Odell Beckham Jr., Landon Collins, Olivier Vernon and more, while hitching their wagon to 38-year-old quarterback Eli Manning.

That does not inspire confidence in many who already cling to a very specific anti-Eli narrative, so it should come as little surprise that Big Blue very nearly bottomed out in the latest USA TODAY power rankings.

With a four-spot drop, the Giants now reside at No. 29 overall, just barely ahead of the Cincinnati Bengals, Washington Redskins and Miami Dolphins.

Amid OBJ, Eli handwringing, defensive deterioration has gone largely unnoticed. Fair to worry if Saquon Barkley’s prime will be squandered.

As noted, the Redskins check in below the Giants at No. 31 overall, while the Dallas Cowboys reside at No. 18 overall and the Philadelphia Eagles at No. 9 overall.

The New England Patriots, unsurprisingly, hold the No. 1 spot, barely edging out the Los Angeles Chargers, while the aforementioned Dolphins sit alone in the basement.
