SAN FRANCISCO _ In a game played under a gray and persistent drizzle, with fans cheering from somewhere beneath their umbrellas, Jeff Samardzija found his groove Sunday.
But he did so too late to save the Giants.
The Colorado Rockies rocked Samardzija early and held on for a 4-3 victory at AT&T Park. The Rockies scored three of their runs over the span of the first four batters, including a lead-off home run by Charlie Blackmon.
D.J. LeMahieu (single), Carlos Gonzalez (double) and Nolan Arenado (two-run double) also had hits while the crowd was still relatively dry.
Samardzija eventually pulled it together, grinding through seven innings with eight strikeouts and no walks over 110 pitches. But LeMahieu's run-scoring single in the second held up for the winning run.
Hunter Pence, Brandon Belt and Nick Hundley drove in first-inning runs for the Giants, but that was the end of their offense against Antonio Senzatela, a 22-year-old rookie.
After going 3-4 on the homestand, the Giants hit the road for five-game trip. They return to Kansas City for their first two games there since the 2014 World Series, then play three games at Colorado over the weekend.
