Giants’ Evan Engram week-to-week with midfoot sprain

New York Giants tight end Evan Engram missed practice on Wednesday with what head coach Pat Shurmur initially called a “sore foot,” but as it turns out, the issue might be a bit more serious.

Following the conclusion of the team’s walkthrough, Shurmur provided additional details on Engram and his injury, calling it a “midfoot sprain” that will be evaluated on a week-to-week basis.

Although Shurmur said it’s too early to assess Engram’s potential availability for a Week 10 game against the New York Jets, it seems unlikely he’ll be able to play as he’s currently confined to a walking boot.

Engram will seek a second opinion on his foot from the same doctor who evaluated Saquon Barkley’s ankle.

In addition to Engram, the news on wide receiver Sterling Shepard was less than optimistic.

After entering concussion protocol for the third time this season, the Giants intend to send Shepard to a specialist in Pittsburgh to further evaluate the receiver’s recovery.

Similar to Engram, it’s too early to determine Shepard’s status for Sunday, but odds are that both players will miss the game and potentially several more over the coming weeks.
