Giants' Evan Engram has no significant knee tear, but could miss 4-6 weeks

New York Giants tight end Evan Engram's MRI came back showing no significant ligament tears in his right knee, a source confirmed Monday to NorthJersey.com.

Engram's injury was diagnosed as an MCL sprain, confirming an initial report by ESPN. He'll be treated as week to week, and conservatively it sounds like 4-6 weeks is the most accurate timetable. It all depends on the treatment.

Rhett Ellison will continue to see an increased role in Engram's absence. He caught a touchdown from Eli Manning in Sunday's 27-22 victory over the Texans in Houston.

Expect Scott Simonson's playing time to get a boost with the possibility that Garrett Dickerson could be in line for a promotion from the practice squad if the Giants feel they need to add a third tight end with Engram out.

Could Engram get back sooner? That would depend on the severity of the sprain and how quickly he can get back to full speed. With his skill set, you don't want to compromise his speed and explosiveness with a bulky brace.
