Giants’ Eli Manning won’t play in preseason finale

New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning has seen all the preseason action he’s going to in 2019.

Head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters following Sunday’s practice that Manning will be inactive on Thursday night in the preseason finale against the New England Patriots.

In Manning’s place, rookie quarterback Daniel Jones will get the start with Kyle Lauletta and Alex Tanney seeing action later in the game.

It would make sense to rest Manning in the final preseason game given that he’s already been named the Week 1 starter, which now appears to be set in stone despite many reporters questioning the validity of Shurmur repeatedly naming him the starter.

While this decision won’t quell those questions, it goes to show that Shurmur has not been blowing smoke and was set to move forward with Manning from the onset.

In three preseason games, Manning completed nine of his 13 passes for 86 yards and one touchdown. Three of those four incompletions were dropped.
