Giants’ Eli Manning vows to be a good teammate following demotion

Say what you will about New York Giants quarterback Eli Manning, but he never shies away from his responsibilities and refuses to hide in a corner when things aren’t going his way.

Accordingly, it should come as no surprise to anyone that following his Tuesday demotion, ending a legendary era and ushering in rookie Daniel Jones, Manning stood tall at his locker and fielded a relentless barrage of questions.

Obviously emotional and still processing the potential end of his career, Manning vowed to stay true to the “C” on his jersey, practice as hard as he can and serve in whatever role the team needs him to step into.

“In some ways I signed up for this. Knowing [we] drafted a young quarterback, this can happen,” Manning told reporters, admitting he was upset with the demotion. “I have to live with it and make the best of it.

“I knew it was a possibility and I just said, ‘okay, I’ll handle it.’ I’ll support Daniel, I’ll be a good teammate and do what I am told.”

Asked about potentially waiving his no-trade clause, Manning refused to rule it out, saying that he’s taking a day-by-day approach right now and anticipates being here throughout the season.

“I’ll get into futures later in. Right now I’m the second string quarterback of the Giants,” Manning said. “I’m not dying and the season isn’t over.”

Always all class, Manning’s Wednesday press conference should serve to remind Giants Nation exactly what we’re losing, whether that be in the near future or the distant future.
