Giants’ Eli Manning: Things are getting a little swampy at camp

The New York Giants opened training camp in the early summer, and they’ve been met with some especially hot and humid days over the first week with temperatures regularly soaring into the high 90s.

As a result of the high temps and equally high humidity, veteran quarterback Eli Manning says things can sometimes become a little more challenging — like taking a snap from a swampy center.

“It almost becomes a wet ball drill sometimes with these snaps on a hot day with these centers — what’s going on with them?” Manning joked on Tuesday. “I think that’s good. You’re not always going to have a dry ball and the conditions aren’t going to be perfect. It tests everybody’s mentality. When it’s hot, make it hard on them and test them mentally because that will prepare us for [the next] game.

“We only get 25 plays or something. 20 plays with the ones in there during practice. In game, you’re up to 60 plays, so we’ve got to get ready for that.”

Say what you will about Manning, but the guy never loses his sense of humor and always knows how to fit a good one-liner in there. Perhaps he has a post-football future as a stand up comedian.

But for now, Manning is preparing for another swampy practice.
