Giants draft pick Julian Love being run through the DB gamut

When the New York Giants selected Julian Love with their fourth round pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, the expectation was that he would immediately slide into the team’s thin cornerback rotation.

But Giants general manager Dave Gettleman envisioned other things for the Notre Dame defensive back — he saw a player who could add some versatility and play safety as well as cornerback.

While at rookie mini-camp this past week, Love said he was open to playing anywhere on the field and helping the Giants in anyway needed.

“I moved around quite a bit, you know, wherever they need me, I’ll probably play. Working at corner, working at nickel, working at safety. Just trying to be able to do it all, it helps,” Love said.

One more thing Love called attention to was his cornerback and draftee brethren, Deandre Baker, whom the Giants traded back into the first round to acquire.

Love mentioned that he admires Baker’s confidence and physicality and said that he will thrive while playing alongside that kind of teammate — a teammate who doesn’t shy away from his confidence.
