Giants don’t budge in latest USA TODAY power rankings

The New York Giants defeated the Washington Football Team in Week 9, boosting their record to 2-7 and thrusting them back into the NFC East hunt.

It seems crazy, but here we are. The Giants are one game back in the win column and go up against the division-leading Philadelphia Eagles this Sunday.

Perhaps most importantly, the Giants continued to show improvement across the board in Washington. They’ve taken their ground game to the next level, their defense finally came up clutch and quarterback Daniel Jones avoided turning the ball over.

All of that wasn’t enough to sway the consistently negative opinion of Nate Davis, who left the Giants in place at No. 28 overall in his latest USA TODAY power rankings.

28. Giants (28): If only QB Daniel Jones got to face the Football Team every week. He’s 4-0 against Washington … and 1-16 against the rest of the league.

Teams win games, not quarterbacks. At least that was the line from pundits each time Eli Manning won a Super Bowl.

Comparatively, both the Dallas Cowboys and Washington Football Team remain in place at No. 30 and No. 29 overall, respectively. Alex Smith was given a nice hat tip despite throwing the game-ending interceptions, while ex-Giant Cooper Rush was called upon to start in Dallas.

The Philadelphia Eagles rose two spots to No. 22 overall despite being on their bye.

Finally, the New York Jets unsurprisingly remain in last place, while the undefeated Pittsburgh Steelers maintain their stronghold on the No. 1 overall spot.
