Giants’ Devonta Freeman removed from Reserve/COVID-19 list

On the same day that offensive coordinator Jason Garrett tested positive for COVID-19 and cornerback James Bradberry was placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list due to a close contact, the New York Giants removed running back Devonta Freeman from said list.

Although Freeman remains on injured reserve due to ankle and hamstring issues, there is some growing optimism that he could be reactivated over the final two weeks of the season.

The Giants signed Freeman in late September after losing superstar running back Saquon Barkley to a torn ACL. Prior to his own injury, the veteran back had rushed for 172 yards and scored one touchdown on 54 carries.

In Freeman’s absence, the Giants have turned to a trio of Wayne Gallman, Alfred Morris and Dion Lewis. Gallman, of course, has led the way with 561 yards and six touchdowns.

Freeman worked on the side with trainers on Wednesday, which was his final day of ramp-up conditioning coming off the list.
