Giants designate Kyler Fackrell to return from injured reserve

The New York Giants have designated linebacker Kyler Fackrell to return form injured reserve and he is expected to rejoin his teammates at practice on Wednesday.

Fackrell, 29, was placed on IR in early December with a calf injury and has missed the last three games.

Coupled with injuries to other pass rushers such as Oshane Ximines and the trade of Markus Golden, the Giants have been remarkably thin at outside linebacker. As a result, in a Week 15 loss to the Cleveland Browns, inside linebacker David Mayo was forced to take snaps along the edge.

Needless to say, assuming he’s able to clear all necessarily hurdles, the Giants will welcome Fackrell back with open arms.

Signed as a free agent this offseason, Fackrell has appeared in 11 games (eight starts), recording 31 tackles (six for a loss), two passes defensed, nine QB hits and 3.0 sacks. He also has one interception that was returned for a touchdown.

Interestingly, Fackrell has graded out better as a run defender than a pass rusher according to Pro Football Focus, with grades of 69.1 and 55.8, respectively.
