Giants’ Deandre Baker says he will ‘definitely’ be ready for Cowboys

New York Giants rookie Deandre Baker left practice on Sunday after feeling “something” in his left knee. All initial fears were that he tore his ACL and would be sidelined for the season. The team was relieved on Monday when news came out that it wasn’t a torn ACL, but a left knee sprain.

Baker, a first-round draft pick out of Georgia, is projected to be a starting defensive back this season. On an already thin defense, losing him would have been detrimental for the Giants, so the entire team and fan base breathed a huge sigh of relief when it was released that the injury was less severe than anticipated.

On Tuesday, Baker said that while he’s listed as day-to-day, he will “definitely” be ready for week one against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m good,” Baker told reporters. “I’ll definitely be ready [for Week 1].”

It’s a good thing, too, since the Cowboys could be without star running back Ezekiel Elliot, leaving Dak Prescott to throw the ball more.

At Georgia, Baker accumulated 116 tackles (83 solo), one sack, seven interceptions, 23 passes defended, two forced fumbles and a fumble recovery.
