Giants’ Deandre Baker has sprained knee, Amba Etta-Tawo carted off

The last thing the New York Giants need is more injuries at the wide receiver position, but that’s exactly what they got on Monday as they opened Week 4 of training camp.

Midway through practice, wide receiver Amba Etta-Tawo, who was signed following a slew of injuries at the position, went down awkwardly and appeared to injure his leg, which resulted in the cart coming out to bring him into the locker room.

Meanwhile, linebacker Alec Ogletree (calf), offensive linemen Brian Mihalik (burner) and George Asafo-Adjei (concussion), cornerback Deandre Baker (knee) and defensive lineman Olsen Pierre (unknown) were among the group sidelined on Monday.

The good news regarding Baker, who underwent additional tests on his left knee at the Hospital for Special Surgery prior to practice, is that he did not suffer a torn ACL and has been diagnosed with a knee sprain. He is considered day-to-day.

“It is a big relief, certainly. He’s been coming along real well,” head coach Pat Shurmur told reporters.

On the positive side of the injury news, cornerback Grant Haley (shoulder) and running back Jonathan Hilliman (concussion) each returned to practice on Monday, while Beal took a step forward by doing some resistance work on the side with a trainer.
