Giants’ David Mayo the 17th-highest graded LB of 2019

The New York Giants are a disaster on the defensive side of the ball, but there are several players still performing at a high level despite being lost in the mess.

One of those players is rookie defensive lineman Dexter Lawrence, who remains one of the highest-graded rookies in the NFL courtesy of Pro Football Focus.

But Lawrence is far from the only one deserving of praise.

Giants linebacker David Mayo, who largely flies under-the-radar, had another impressive performance in a Week 12 loss to the Chicago Bears, ultimately earning a spot on PFF’s Team of the Week.

LB DAVID MAYO, NEW YORK GIANTS

One of few bright spots in the Giants’ 19-14 loss to Chicago, Mayo recorded a 92.4 overall grade across 36 defensive snaps on Sunday. He recorded six defensive stops and one pass breakup on his one target in coverage.

Mayo’s appearance on the Team of Week 12 is just a small example of how well he’s played this season. A number that is perhaps more representative of Mayo’s production this season also comes by way of PFF, who now have him as the 17th-highest grade linebacker in all of football.

In 11 games with the Giants this season, Mayo has recorded 50 tackles, three stuffs, 1.5 sacks and two passes defensed — all of which represent career highs.
