Giants’ Dave Gettleman shuts down Odell Beckham Jr. talk

New York Giants general manager Dave Gettleman held an impromptu presser at Giants training camp on Friday and addressed several of the pressing issues that have surrounded the team the past few months.

But first Gettleman said that the team would entertain several veteran wide receivers on Saturday after the injuries to Sterling Shepard (fractured thumb), Corey Coleman (ACL) and rookie Darius Slayton (hamstring).

“We’ll invite a couple of vets,” Gettleman told reporters. “We’ll see if they come.”

Their quarterback situation, where veteran Eli Manning is supposed to be pushed by rookie Daniel Jones, is the top story of training camp. Gettleman pretty much put the responsibility of making that decision in the hands of his head coach, Pat Shurmur.

“It’s Pat’s decision. Pat and I talk all the time. We talk a lot. Everyday,” Gettleman said, clearing up any issue and that the lines of communication are open. “Guys play when it’s time.”

Gettleman was asked about the comments made by former wide receiver Odell Beckham, Jr. this offseason. He also put the kibosh on that talk as well.

“Odell plays for the Cleveland Browns now and we’re moving on. We wish him the best,” Gettleman snapped. “No more Odell questions.”

Gettleman had a message to the fans, pretty much asking them to continue to be patient.
“They’ve just got to trust. We’ve been doing this a long time. We’re professionals,” Gettleman said. “You can’t turn this thing around on a dime. … I appreciate their passion. We want to win just as badly as they do.”
