Giants’ Dave Gettleman admits pressure is on Daniel Jones in 2021

Is it a make-or-break season for New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones in 2021?

During a Tuesday appearance on SiriusXM NFL Radio, general manager Dave Gettleman stopped short of saying that but did admit pressure will be on the third-year quarterback and former first-round pick.

“This is an important year for Daniel and an important year for us,” Gettleman said. “What can I tell you? I’m stating the obvious.”

The Giants went out and signed wide receivers Kenny Golladay and John Ross, tight end Kyle Rudolph and running back Devontae Booker before adding wide receiver Kadarius Toney through the draft, all in an effort to help Jones’ production.

Unfortunately, Rudolph has not yet stepped on the field due to a foot injury, Golladay and Ross are currently sidelined with hamstring injuries and Toney has been brought along slowly after a stint on the COVID-19 list.

Despite all that, Gettleman maintains he and the organization are confident in the 24-year-old Jones.

“He’s done some really good stuff in camp so far,” Gettleman said. “You have to remember he switched offenses [after his first year]. It takes time. But I have great confidence in Daniel Jones.”

Fair or not, time has likely run out for Jones.

After posting just one winning season since 2011, the Giants need to win and win now. Anything short of substantial progression could spell the end for not just Jones, but Gettleman as well.
