Giants’ Daniel Jones was unfazed by draft night boos

During his career in the NFL, Eli Manning has been the perfect personality to deal with the New York media, one of the toughest cities to play given the ravenous reporters. Everything in New York is amplified and the fans are no exception.

As Manning’s career comes closer to an end, the Giants hope they have found the quarterback of the future in Daniel Jones.

When the Giants took Jones out of Duke in this past April’s draft, there was no shortage of controversy surrounding the selection. Many believes Jones at No. 6 overall wasn’t just a reach, but a franchise-crushing decision.

Jones was a guest on WFAN on Tuesday and talked about what it meant to get booed on draft night.

“There’s worse things in the world than being a first-round pick to the Giants, so I wasn’t feeling sorry for myself. I think it’s part of it, and I understand it to some extent. But I was just excited for the opportunity. It was where I wanted to be. It was how I hoped it played out, and it did. I wasn’t too caught up in that,” Jones said.

Still, Jones has yet to escape the narrative that was created in April. Even six-year-old Giants fans find themselves trash talking him.

The relationship between Manning and Jones has been a big positive this offseason as Jones strives to learn from the two-time Super Bowl MVP. Manning has already praised the attitude of Jones and it seems he has the right attitude headed into the first preseason game.

“I think obviously everyone wants to play, Everyone on the team wants to play and is preparing to play. So, like I said, however it works out, whatever the plan is, I trust that, and I’ll do my best to be ready,” he said.

Jones reiterated that he is “pumped” for his NFL debut. If the Giants play well this season, the preseason may be all we see from Jones during game action this season.
