Giants’ Daniel Jones throws 3 INTs in 35-14 loss to Patriots

The New York Giants were defeated by the New England Patriots at Gillette Stadium by a score of 35-14 on Thursday night.

Though it was a hard-fought battle for the majority of the game, Giants rookie quarterback Daniel Jones got another taste of what life in the NFL is like against the league’s top defense — without the benefit of Saquon Barkley, Sterling Shepard and Evan Engram.

The No. 6 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, Jones struggled mightily in prime time. He completed 15 of 31 passes for 161 yards, one touchdown, three interceptions and a 35.2 passer rating. The Patriots (6-0) weren’t afraid to send blitzes, and they disguised coverages well, which resulted in many missed throws and even some turnovers.

He did have a long 64-yard touchdown pass to wide receiver Golden Tate on a beautiful ball down the seam, so it wasn’t all bad for the rookie. Tate finished with six catches on nine targets for 102 yards and the score.

The Giants defense did all it could to keep the game close for the majority of the night. Lorenzo Carter, Alec Ogletree, David Mayo and Markus Golden were all involved in sacks. Golden recorded a scoop-and-score, taking a 42-yard fumble on a sack of Tom Brady to the house to tie the game at 14.

Three of the Patriots’ touchdowns came against the defense — two of which came on sneaks by Brady. The other two touchdowns were the result of a botched punt and a Jon Hilliman fumble.

The Giants (2-4) return home in Week 7 to host the Arizona Cardinals at MetLife Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 20, at 1 p.m. ET.
