Giants’ Daniel Jones pays homage to Eli Manning with audible

“Eli, Eli, Eli!”

New York Giants quarterback Daniel Jones could be heard changing the play at the line of scrimmage several times on Sunday in Washington, each time using the name of his mentor, Eli Manning.

Following the “Eli” audible, Jones could also occasionally be heard shouting a Manning specialty: “Omaha! Omaha!”

On at least one of those audible, Jones hit undrafted rookie wide receiver Austin Mack for a first down which Manning himself can relate to. The future Hall of Famer found great success with an undrafted rookie receiver of his own — Victor Cruz.

After the game, Jones, who was sporting a thin Manning-like beard, cracked wise over the audible and said maybe now he’ll hear from Eli.

“He hasn’t said much about that yet, but maybe I’ll hear from him now,” Jones said with a smile.

No sooner did those words leave Jones’ lips than Manning sent out a tweet asking if the second-year quarterback wanted to play a little flip cup.

Manning, of course, was referring back to a 2019 victory over the then-Washington Redskins after which he and Jones were spotted out at a club partying.

Obviously the duo couldn’t recreate that moment due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but it’s nice to see that Manning still remains a positive fixture in the Giants’ locker room.
