Giants’ Daniel Jones opens voluntary workouts as QB3

The New York Giants do not begin their organized team activities (OTAs) until next Monday, May 20, but they are in the building this week as a team for the first time for voluntary workouts.

To begin workouts, rookie Daniel Jones is listed as the No. 3 quarterback on the depth chart, behind Eli Manning and Alex Tanney.

It makes sense that Jones would start at the bottom of the depth chart. One wonders if he’ll still be there when Kyle Lauletta returns to action.

There’s no possible way the Giants carry four quarterbacks, and with Manning and Jones pretty much locked in, the competition this summer for the other quarterback spot will essentially be between Tanney and Lauletta.

Dungey, if he makes the roster, will not be listed as a quarterback, although the Giants are probably eyeing ways to get him some snaps as a wildcat option.

The ink isn’t dry on offensive lineman Mike Remmers’ contract yet, so he’s not expected to dive right in, especially since he’s coming off back surgery. No one is quite sure what percentage Remmers is at at the moment or when he’ll be able to take the field in earnest.

Mandatory minicamp will be held from June 4-6.
